Over 25,000 migrant children in Greece benefited from “All Children in Education” programme

The “All Children in Education” (ACE) programme, which was co-funded by the European Commission (96%) under the call for Union Action grants to Support Reception, Asylum and Return Systems under Pressure of the 2021-2027 AMIF, was concluded on 30 June  2024, making a significant impact on the lives of refugee and migrant children in Greece.  

Since its launch, in 2021, ACE has supported over 25,000 refugee and migrant children across Greece, acting as a bridge between non-formal education and the formal education system. The programme was initiated by the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, coordinated by UNICEF, and implemented by several NGOs offering non-formal education, homework assistance, and psychosocial support to the children and their families, to facilitate their smooth transition into Greek public schools. This multifaceted approach ensured that the children not only received academic support but also emotional support for their well-being and integration. 

A standout element of ACE was the “Teach4Integration” capacity-building program, which empowered more than 5,000  teachers across Greece to better address the unique challenges faced by these students and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Innovative teaching materials and strategies were elaborated that were specifically tailored to students with migrant background. 

By adopting a harmonised approach to education and emphasising school readiness, ACE has successfully facilitated access to both formal and non-formal education for refugee and migrant children. The program has not only built educational bridges but also paved the way for the successful integration of these young learners into Greek society.
